Sna expels students that bullied brutally.

Shameful incident of a beating in Sanawar. I am glad that the headmaster has expelled the violent students.

SANAWAR: Even as angry parents of the Lawrence School students who were brutally beaten by seniors gathered in protest, school authorities revealed
to a TOI team on Saturday that they were under ‘‘tremendous pressure from police, political leaders and other influential persons to take the expelled students back.

However, in the midst of all the controversy and shock, head master Praveen Vashisht seems to have dug his heels in. ‘‘I am prepared to leave my job if I can’t even take such a step (to expel students) to enforce discipline in my school,’’ he said. Admitting he was under pressure from parents, he added, ‘‘The punishment was for the benefit of the erring students as they need to learn a lesson early in life. Otherwise, if you overlook such a thing, they would be encouraged to go and even commit murder tomorrow.’’

But a day after TOI first reported the ragging incident for which seven class XI students were expelled from one of India’s prestigious schools, chilling details of the attack on class XI students by the seniors were trickling out. Parents of the boys who were thrashed, apparently for not cheering for the seniors during a basketball match, said the bullies used wet leather belts, rods and sticks to whip the cowering juniors. The brutality has apparently left some of the victims with perforated ear drums, bruised bodies and trauma.
